New Zealand Secondary Schools Cue Sports
Welcome to the official website of New Zealand Secondary Schools Cue Sports! Cue sports is a fun yet competitive sport that nearly anyone can play. As cue sports allows competitors to compete equally no matter what gender, age or size, the competition is unique in that it is run under one open division for secondary school students in years 9 to 13.
On our page you will find all the resources you need to play in the NZSS 8 Ball competition. After COVID-19 impacted so severely on the competition in 2020 and 2021, we're extremely pleased to announce that the 2022 season will be getting underway soon with some schools starting training in term 2, and regional tournaments and competitions being planned to take place in term 3 of the school year.
The 2022 NZSS National 8 Ball Championship is scheduled to take place in Hamilton on Friday September 2, and Saturday September 3. With the 2020 and 2021 Championships being cancelled due to COVID-19, we're hoping to see a strong field this year!
The NZSS 8 Ball competition is run under the VNEA Pool Leagues format whereby competitors play in teams of three (you can have more in a team as subs are allowed in a match). The VNEA (Valley National Eight Ball Association) is an international non-profit cue sports organisation that has members throughout the world who gather in the USA every year for the VNEA World Pool Championships. A number of competitors in the NZSS 8 Ball Championships have represented New Zealand at the VNEA Junior World Pool Championships over the years, and the 2022 team will feature many more of our talented secondary schools competitors. They will be competing in the 32nd Anniversary of the tournament in Erie, Pennsylvania in July 2022.
