Initial numbers show an increased uptake in participation in the NZSS Cue Sports program by females. Player registrations in the Waikato region show an almost even split between genders, something that stands out to those involved.
Professional player and coach, Marco Teutscher has been encouraged by the number of females he sees playing in teams that he is coaching in the Waikato. “I have played around the world for the last 16 years and to see as many girls playing as boys is really good for the sport”.
“Having boys and girls of all ages competing equally in an open division is great too. While it is something that is always possible with cue sports, you don’t really see it happen anywhere in the world so to see it in action and work so well in New Zealand is fantastic”.
National finals over the last few years have seen mixed and all female teams achieve top three placing in each year.
