This year has been challenging for everyone in so many ways with Covid-19 impacting on nearly every aspect of our daily lives. The nationwide lockdown earlier in the year saw a later start to secondary school cue sports competition and had organisers planning for a reduced national championship compared to previous years.
With Auckland now under Level 3 restrictions until at least August 26, and the rest of New Zealand in Level 2, a decision has been made to cancel the 2020 NZSS Cue Sports National Championship that was scheduled to take place on September 4 and 5 at the Massé cue sports venue in Hamilton.
When making this decision, consideration was given to the impact on teams within the Auckland region; the uncertainty around how long restrictions will last; the difficulty running a team based event at an indoor venue under Level 2 restrictions; and, the health and safety of participants, coaches, managers, supporters and venue staff. Ultimately the organising team felt that unfortunately there was no other choice but to cancel the 2020 championship event.
We are now planning for next year with the aim of making sure the 2021 competition culminates in an exciting, entertaining, and professionally run event that players and spectators have come to expect!
