Teams and Schedules

The NZSS 8 Ball competition is played using the VNEA 8 Ball teams format.

Teams consist of three players, and a match between two teams sees each player from each team, play one frame of 8 Ball against each of the opposing team members. That means in a match, each player will play three frames of 8 Ball in total, which means the match consists of a total of nine frames of 8 Ball.

A team may also have a reserve player who may be substituted into a match at anytime as long as the opposing team captain is advised in advance. The reserve player must play in the same position of order as the player they are substituting for.

The number of teams taking part in the regional competition will dictate the league schedule. Below are the league schedules which dictate the draw of the competition depending on the number of teams taking part (4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 teams). To begin with, download the league schedule that best matches the number of teams in your competition (4 or less, download the 4 team schedule; 5 or 6 teams, download the 6 team schedule, etc.).

After filling in the name of your league and date, write down the names of the teams in your league. The number next to the team name will be their team number, and will show who that teams plays in each round (e.g. 2 plays 1, 4 plays 3, etc.). The number of rounds played will depend on the number of teams in the league; how many rounds are played each week; and, how long the regional competition runs for.

If you have less than the number of teams the draw caters for, teams will have a bye. That is, if there are 3 teams taking part, use the 4 team league schedule, but each mach featuring team 4 will count as a bye.

We've included an example schedule for a 4 team league. In the example you can see that this 4 team league takes place on Tuesdays at 4 pm. Two rounds are played each Tuesday and the league runs for 6 weeks. With 4 teams in the league no one has a bye.
